If elected officials behave like schoolchildren, then the community has every right to call it out.
Liverpool City Council has serious work to do — housing, infrastructure, planning, services, local jobs, investment, and restoring community confidence. Instead, ratepayers are watching personal disputes, accusations, walkouts and dysfunction dominate the headlines.
The public has had enough. Council staff have had enough. And Liverpool ratepayers deserve far better from the people elected to represent them.
It is very clear that mediation between Mayor Ned Mannoun and Councillor Peter Ristevski will not work unless both are prepared to grow up, sit down, and put Liverpool ahead of themselves.
If they cannot do that, they should seriously ask whether they are fit to continue representing our great City at all.
Independent councillors do not have the safety of party numbers. We are expected to make decisions on merit and in the interests of ratepayers. That is what the community voted for, and that is what Liverpool deserves.
Liverpool has already paid a heavy price this term, including the resignation of long-serving Councillor Betty Green after many years of loyal service to the community. The City cannot afford more division, distraction or political theatre.
We still believe Liverpool is best kept in local hands. But that requires local leadership worthy of the responsibility. Everyone wants to see a better, stronger Liverpool — a City that moves forward with confidence, not one dragged backwards by personal conflict.
So YES we are calling it out: Mayor Ned Mannoun and Councillor Peter Ristevski, it is time to put Liverpool first.
Sit down. Sort it out. Act like adults. Or seriously consider whether you should continue representing our Local Community.
Liverpool has places to go. It needs leadership, maturity and unity — not chaos.
Liverpool deserves better.
